The Mayor Visits Beckminster

In another highlight of our Centenary celebrations, the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Paul Singh, came to Beckminster on 25th September 2026 to attend the Macmillan Coffee Evening organised by the Gateway group which is one of the community groups that use our premises.

Gateway is a club for learning disabled adults and has been in existence for over 50 years as part of Mencap Wolverhampton. Their leader is Trudy O'Hara who is supported by a large group of volunteers.

They meet every Friday evening between 6.30pm and 9.00pm and run a varied programme of games and activities including art and craft, table tennis, darts and physical fitness but also presentations about such topics as how to recognise scams, keeping safe and healthy eating.

The Macmillan Coffee Evening is a regular feature of the Gateway programme and a chance to raise money for a very worthy cause.

The Mayor, Councillor Paul Singh, was welcomed by Tim Lorimer, Sue Lorimer, Rev Paul and Trudy O'Hara

Gateway member David Pilinger gave a speech of welcome to the Mayor.

We would like to thank the Mayor for making time in his busy programme to come to Beckminster and be involved in the Gateway evening and for allowing so many Gateway members to take selfies with him.
