The grounds at Beckminster are very well maintained by a group of willing volunteers under the direction of Phill Healey.
After a challenging summer with a prolonged drought and hosepipe ban the bedding plants planted out in the spring suffered very badly.
With the return of some rain, planting for autumn and winter colour is taking place and the grounds are starting to recover their traditional glory.
The church was approached by members of the Weight Watchers group which uses our hall for their weekly meeting and asked if they could plant wild flower seeds in memory of one of their members who had died.
The article below explains everything.
"Following the sudden and unexpected death of a dear Weight Watcher friend, the group asked whether it would be possible to put some of the wildflower seeds which were given to us after her funeral by her partner and family. She had been a regular attendee at this workshop reaching her goal weight which she was immensely proud of.
Beckminster members very kindly prepared an area in front of the Coffee Bar windows, where we have planted a range of autumn plants. The plants include pansies, violas, cyclamen, heather, chrysanthemums and dianthus, with the wildflower seeds sown amongst them, hoping they will grow later in the year and keep popping up year after year.
We want the mini garden to reflect the cheer, fun and brightness which was brought to the workshops by our friend, and which reflects also the cheery welcome we always get from our coach, Roz and all WW members. We would like also to share this with all who work in or visit this lovely, welcoming hall, attached to the beautiful Beckminster Methodist Church.
Many thanks go to Sue, Steve and Beckminster members who prepared this area, making this little flower garden possible".
